    Pterygium Surgery

A pterygium is a fleshy vascularised growth of tissue onto the surface of the cornea. These are almost always on the inside of eye close to the nose. The removal of a pterygium is best done by excision using microsurgical instruments and securing a graft of conjunctival tissue over the bare area. The advantages of the graft are well known and will protect the eye from developing a recurrent pterygium. Every case should have a conjunctival graft.

Pterygium surgery is performed in a day surgery and requires approximately one week off work.
